Chapter 28- Why Ease Needs Space to Emerge

On what emerges when we finally stop pushing.

I allowed myself to really take a break this time.

Usually, I am thinking constantly about all the work that I need to do once I get home after my break.

But this time, I was intentional about the way I embraced my time in Vancouver with my daughter.

I didn’t think about the launch of the Effortless Healing Companion in March or my clients.

Or all the things that needed to get done at home once I got back.

I allowed myself to enjoy the sights and the amazing food, get used to the freezing temperatures and simply spend time and catch up with my daughter.

Being “on” all the time

What I noticed this time around is how conditioned we are to be on a “productive mode” all of the time.

It’s almost as if we need to justify our existence and earn our rest. I have noticed this in myself and other women who believe that we need to constantly chase more efficiency and better outcomes in everything that we do.

It’s simply exhausting!

In fact, this kind of conditioning is actually universal.

And so while every fibre of my being wanted to focus on the launch and all the things that need to get done before that, I knew better this time.

So I planned ahead and accounted for this time away from my work.

Because I have realised:

I am a better leader, entrepreneur, wife and parent when I take time off to recharge.

You see, when you take the time to recharge and fill your cup regularly, you are actually making space for creativity. For stepping up to your true potential.

Not with more effort, but with more ease.

Life can be hard enough already without us adding to the mix.

But there’s another reason why you need to be more intentional about living with ease.

“What if healing hard is the thing exhausting us?”

It’s easy to believe that putting in more effort leads to better healing outcomes.

Chronic illness often leads to a drive to “fix” everything that is not working.

We feel that unless we optimise and track all the different aspects of health such as blood markers, sleep, weight and more, better health won’t be possible.

However, often this incessant need to track and optimise leads to chronic overwhelm and confusion.

More importantly, what happens is that your body remains stuck in a fight or flight mode.

So the very thing that you are trying to achieve remains unachievable inspite of having “tried everything”.

Is this something that you’ve noticed in your life too?

Living with ease doesn’t mean you are not healing

Often, there are lessons that can only be learned by truly experiencing life and allowing it to unfold without forcing it to be different from what it is right now.

As for me,

I’m learning that building something that is rooted in ease requires living in it.

I’ve lived most of my life believing that the only way to get ahead requires constant, exhaustive effort.

It was only much later that I realised that this was a recipe for burn out and exhaustion.

Not to mention that the level of impact that I want to have cannot be achieved with brute force.

And specifically for what I am building, if I want women to trust their bodies again, then I have to trust the timing while I am moving towards setting goals.

Something has been taking shape

Over the past few months, I’ve been building something quietly.

And though its been hard, I’ve taught myself not to rush it. To not force it into a shape it wasn’t ready to take.

I’ve been watching what happens when women are given rhythm instead of pressure, ease over performance. When they’re met with gentleness instead of urgency.

When the support they receive actually feels like support and not another thing to manage.

What I’ve seen has been extraordinary and eye opening.

I’ve learned that there’s a different kind of healing that becomes possible when a woman feels truly held and listened to.

Not fixed. Not optimised.

Just... met. Right where she is.

So, here’s what I want to you ask you, friend.

Where in your life are you trying to force what simply wants to unfold?
Where are you pushing harder when what’s actually needed is a softer touch?

You don’t have to earn your healing or get permission to rest.

And you certainly don’t have to rush it either.

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply breathe and pause.

And trust that what is meant for you is already finding its way.
