Is a lack of “Self care” the missing piece in your healing journey?
Are you struggling to keep yourself motivated to deal with your health issues?
Do you struggle to make better dietary choices, move your body or get enough sleep?
Are you tired of being a prisoner to your symptoms?
It's time to take control and by taking a different approach.
REAL CLIENTS, REAL TRANSFORMATION
I remember working briefly with Archana, she was a part of my membership programme called “Peaceful mind, healthy body”. At the end of three months of working together, this is what she had to say
“Until the Membership, ‘SelfCare’ as a concept, was completely, alien to me.
I learned, through baby steps, how to inculcate it into my daily life; so much so that, today, I have been able to make it my own!!
For me, these past few months of self-discovery has been refreshing and rewarding”Archana
It was equally rewarding for me to see this kind of transformation that all my clients go through, just like Archana.
The reason that so many even in the Functional Medicine arena fail to get lasting results for their clients is often that self care as a concept is completely missing from the teaching process.
I had also written an earlier post about 5 powerful reasons why you need to create a self care routine and you can read it here.
WHAT SELF CARE IS NOT!
Self care is NOT…
selfish
Time consuming
A luxury
An indulgence
Yet, it is often the piece that is missing.
One of the most common reasons is that we believe that taking care of ourselves is a selfish act.
Women more so than men believe in this myth as a result of their conditioning while growing up and have a harder time making it a part of their daily routine.
If you are dealing with any chronic condition, your life is difficult and challenging as it is. You may already be making dietary and lifestyle changes, be on several medications and take medical advice on a regular basis.
However, without having a regular self care practice it is very easy to go off track when any obstacles come our way.
I recently hosted a 5 day self care challenge called “Self care for autoimmune flares” for women with autoimmune conditions. This challenge was designed to help them slow down and start listening to their body so that they can take the time to rest and bring their body back into balance.
You can watch the accompanying video series that I hosted here.
YOUR HEALING JOURNEY
Ups and downs are very much a part of your healing journey.
But without learning how to integrate and make self care an important part of your life, navigating the most difficult parts can become really tricky.
However, most women find it quite challenging to have a daily self care practice.
One reason may be that you are approaching this healing process from a place of lack- “self neglect”.
Another reason is a lack of healthy boundaries.
You can watch the video below to learn more about this topic.
RUNNING ON EMPTY
If you are dealing with any health challenges, you may be running on empty as you take care of your family as well as your own health. As natural caregivers, women often end up overgiving and also not taking the time to rest and recharge.
The thing is, creating healthy boundaries protects you from burnout and emotional harm.
Treating yourself as the most important person in your world allows you to develop an amazing ability to know, trust and love yourself so that you take care of your health in the best way possible.
When you start treating yourself in this manner, you will find that the world does the same. And then you are able to take better care of your children and your family too!
